Birds will toss their young out of the nest to ensure their deaths if the young are either malnourished, unwell, or have already passed away owing to the effects of illness. Storks and other birds like them will toss their young out of the nest if there are too many young to care for since they can only provide nourishment to the chicks who are the strongest and most robust.
