Radiometric Dating

By analysing the amount of a radioactive element with a short half-life, such as carbon-14, or a radioactive element with a long half-life and its decay product, such as potassium-14/argon-40, is able to determine the age of geological materials in years. This is accomplished by measuring the presence of the radioactive element.
