Is Raising Your Voice Shouting?

Increasing the volume of your voice is not the same as yelling. A noise that is produced in a jarring or erratic manner is called shouting. To talk a bit louder than one's typical tone is to be said to have raised one's voice. This is done so that one may better make themselves known.
