Are Vampires Indian?

At night, it prowls the area, reanimating the corpses it finds, and it attacks the living much as a ghoul would. The Brahmarkhasa was a vampire-like monster that was said to have lived in northern India. It was described as having a head that was ringed by intestines and a skull that it sucked blood from. There are no stories or tales originating in Japan that include vampires.
