The common nighthawk is technically not even a member of the hawk family. In reality, this creature belongs to the same family as nightjars. The whip-poor-will and the common poorwill are both members of the nightjar family of birds. The common nighthawk is a bird that is about the size of a jay and is around 10 inches in length.
