Are Emails Ever Permanently Deleted?

The vast majority of email applications, including Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, just relocate the deleted email to a trash folder, where it remains until it is permanently removed after a predetermined amount of time has passed. When you choose to delete an email from certain folders, such as those that are labelled as Spam, the message will be permanently removed from that folder.
