During the course of treatment, abandonment may also take place if the ongoing treatment needs of the client are not met in a manner that is both ethically and clinically appropriate. This may occur, for example, if the therapist is unavailable to address client crises and emergencies in between sessions or if appropriate coverage arrangements are not made for times when the therapist is unavailable.
