Since 2009, Facebook and Twitter, both of which are owned by the company Meta, have been prohibited in China as part of a government crackdown on activists in response to fatal riots in Xinjiang province. The Great Firewall of China is the name given to China's policy of censoring information that is not produced by the government and restricting access to international media outlets.
