Between Wave:3 and your mouth, try to leave a gap the size of two fists. Keep the gain as low as possible to reduce background noise. A decent starting point is 40% gain, which may be modified via Wave Link software or by looking at the hardware indicator's three illuminated LEDs. Background noise will be reduced with a lower gain setting.
