When learning ballet, students always start at the same place: the five positions. This is in contrast to the majority of other forms of dance, which begin students on different steps or combinations. However, there are really seven positions, with the sixth and seventh being ones that were developed in the twentieth century by Serge Lifar, who was a dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet.
